Neck Injuries and Treatment in Newcastle
Postural Neck Pain
The demands of modern living place a large amount of stress on the spine, particularly the neck. Prolonged static postures can increase tension in the muscles, ligaments and joints and can lead to cervical strains and sprains. This increased load can lead to the development of myofascial pain syndromes and cervical disc pathology if left untreated.
Over time, poor posture can also lead to accelerated development of degenerative joint disease which can result in significant pain and reduced range of movement in the neck region.
Whiplash injuries are caused by a sudden, forceful, passive movement of the neck beyond its normal range of motion, causing widespread injuries to the joints, muscles, ligaments and/ or discs of the cervical spine.
Acute Wry Neck
A wry neck is a sudden onset of pain with a significant restriction in neck movement usually occurring shortly after waking or from turning suddenly.
Headaches can occur for a variety of reasons with one common causative factor being cervical spine dysfunction. Joint stiffness, myofascial trigger points, muscle tightness/ spasm, weakness and the adoption of poor postural positions can all cause headaches.
Here at Lambton Physiotherapy and Sports Medicine, we possess the skills to diagnose and treat these neck conditions accordingly.
